Magickal Tools - Incense Burner
The Censer or Incense burner is possibly one of the most used tools in a ritual. It is a tool of Air in most traditions. It is basically a tool in which you place burning incense. It can be a traditional stick holder, a bowl of sand for resin incences, a cone burner, or a coal burner. I personally use a stick burner in most cases. Most of the incense that I use is in stick form. I have only a few types of cones, though I prefere them. I keep the stick burner on my altar at all times but I keep the cone burner under the altar until I need it.
Making a stick burner is almost too easy. I made my first one. All you need is a peice of wood about ten inches long and another about two inches. Then you just nail the smaller peice on the end of the longer so that it's even with one side but sticks over the other and use a small nail to make a hole in the from of the smaller peice for the sticks. I just spray-painted mine white and I used it for the longest time. It is a lot easier to clean than most other burners.
Other sorts of burners can be made with tin foil, bowls, and other things. But original. All you have to do is find something that can hold something and not melt and it can be your censer.
I bought three of my burners. Two came from South of the Border, which is basically a tourist trap in South Carolina. I got my cone burner and my old stick burner from there. I also got a lamp from there that can be used for short sticks or small cones. The one I use on my altar most of the time, I got from Family Dollar. They have pretty good incenses and nice, smooth, cheap burners.
