Magickal Tools - The Pentacle
The pentacle is a tool of the element of Earth. It is most commonly a disk with a penatgram on it but it can be any symbols that you want. It is commonly used to place things on while doing magick workings or charging things.

A pentacle can be made of almost anything. You can use the part of a tin can that you cut off and paint it or carve it with symbols. You can dig up some clay and bake it and paint it with symbols or use shape the clay in the shape of a pentagram or what-ever. You can use craft clay, wood, plaster of Paris, ANYTHING!

I've made a few pentacles before. My clay ones were no good but my plaster ones are the best. I used a Cool-Whip container for the mold and poured in the mix. Plaster of Paris is really cheap. You can get a big box for like $3 at Wal-Mart.
Anywho, I poured it in the mold and let it set for a day or so just to be safe. Since the bottom of the container had that little ring in it anout 2 CM in from the edge, I used that as the circle of my pentagram. I measured that and printed a plain pentagram the size that I needed and darkened the back with a pencil so it would transfer the design when I went over it on the front. You can also use carbon paper.
After the design was on the plaster, I traced it again with a pencil and went in deep with it so it would dig out some plaster. I then dug it out about 3 MM deep with a nail file and toothpick, including the circle part. Next, I painted it with brown, water-based paint that I got for $0.33 at Wal-Mart. I put on a few layers and then I put one layer of green over that so it would have an Earthy cover. I would wait a day or so to paint new coats on it, else it will peel a bit. I then took a straw from a broom and dabbed it in brown and painted inside the carved out parts and touched up with green where I got brown from painting the inside part. It looks really nice and it was relatively simple to do. I really reccomend using plaster to make your pentacle as opposed to buying one for $10 or more. It cost me like $4 for the paints and plaster and I have a lot of plaster and paint left over for other things, too.
